Paula Zeitlin, Bio Paula teaches improvisation and coaches jazz string quartet and jazz string ensemble at Wellesley College and the Rivers School Conservatory. She conducts jazz string history, jazz string repertoire, and improvisation clinics for students and teachers. She is an active member of the Jazz String Caucus and the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE), and was a contributor to the IAJE/MENC publication "Teaching Jazz, A Course of Study." Paula is also a member of the ASTA (American String Teachers Association) "Alternative Styles" division. With three decades of experience in various folk, bluegrass and Western swing groups, she has led her own jazz ensembles, including the Underground Jazz String Quartet and the Paula Zeitlin Quintet, for the past ten years. Her debut cd as a leader, Walk A Little Slower (SAZL Music), was released in 2002. Paula graduated in Violin Performance from Berklee College of Music in 1992, where she studied with Matt Glaser. She has also studied improvisation with jazz educator Charlie Banacos, and violin pedagogy with Magdalena Richter. Other degrees: B.A. Earlham College; M.A. in English and American Literature, University of Chicago. |
